Since forming in late 2022, Amble – Robbie Cunningham, Oisín McCaffrey, and Ross McNerney – have carved out a reputation for honest songwriting, lush acoustic arrangements and captivating live performances. Their storytelling and sound have resonated with audiences around the world, with over 100,000 tickets sold to date.

Along with their evident chemistry and engaging stage presence, the band soon realised that each member brought a complementary talent to begin writing their own music. Robbie harnessed his own personal experiences to write heartfelt lyrics, meanwhile Oisín added a poetic touch, and Ross took the lead on concocting accompanying folk melodies. Citing John Prine, Paolo Nutini and Ye Vagabonds as key influences on Amble’s sound, the three men quickly began to amass a sizable fanbase both at their local live shows but also online, where global audiences connected with the band’s TikTok videos. Less than a year after forming Amble, the band were picked up by Warner Records and Robbie, Oisín and Ross each quit their day job in order to focus on songwriting.

Amble’s debut single, ‘Mariner Boy’ was released in early 2023. Reminiscent of The Dubliners, the track spotlights Cunningham’s tender vocals and evocative narrative against Irish bouzouki-led refrains. ‘Mariner Boy’ was met with praise for its simple and sincere lyricism, offering its listeners a warm and comforting escape from modern life. In conversation with Ireland Live, Robbie mused, “I remember when we released it, getting told a lot of the time ‘That’s really good, but you didn’t write that’. People thought that it was an old song.” Soon after, Amble released 'Amble (Live)', a highly anticipated effort to encapsulate the band’s powerful live performances, distilling it into a three-track debut EP for their growing global audience.

'Of Land and Sea', Amble’s second EP, was released in February 2024 and served to set the stage for an entirely sold-out 2024 headline tour across US, Canada, UK and Ireland, including debut performances in Los Angeles and New York City. Cementing Amble as a rising talent in the contemporary folk scene, 'Of Land and Sea' proved yet again the band’s ability to resonate and connect with their listeners by exploring familiar themes of nature and nostalgia.

Staying true to their storytelling roots and acoustic sensibilities, Amble’s 2024 EP 'The Commons' centres around personal and rural-inspired experiences. Including two previously released tracks, ‘Little White Chapel’ and ‘The Commons’, the EP also features three new tracks, ‘Thoughts Flood Back To You’, ‘One Man’s Love’ and ‘Luke The Navigator’. Throughout, 'The Commons' explores pertinent themes of love, loss and loneliness, whilst maintaining a no frills approach to production. In conversation with 'Bringin’ it Backwards' the band explains, “Every one of our songs tells a story. We had no ambition to add bells or whistles or anything production-wise. We’re putting a microphone in a room, recording the music, and that’s it.”

Amble’s journey from pub gigs to arena stages has been quietly underpinned by strong support from fans at home and abroad. Their debut album 'Reverie' reached #1 on the Irish Albums Chart across four non-consecutive weeks, while their music has clocked up over 115 million streams globally — steady milestones for a band still only two years in.
