Glam is back: Alvin Purple's Christmas Glamaganza set to raise the roof at Dolans Warehouse
Forget Bad Santa, forget the Elf reruns, forget the fairy lights currently strangling themselves into an unsolvable knot in the attic — the countdown to Christmas doesn't properly begin until the glitter cannon goes off. And this year, that moment arrives at The Alvin Purple Experience Christmas Glamaganza, landing at Dolans Warehouse, Limerick City, on Friday December 4, 2026.
It is, without question, the hottest ticket of the festive calendar, and it sells out every single year — so anyone hoping to bag a seat would do well not to leave it to the last minute, much like everyone's Christmas shopping.
Expect all the big festive anthems belted out with maximum glitter: Merry Christmas, I Wish it Could be Christmas Everyday, Lonely This Christmas, We Wish You a Glammy Christmas, and a fistful of surprises besides.
Backing the man himself is his ever-faithful Purple Posse, on hand to make sure the noize — yes, with a "z" — is felt right down to the floorboards. Between the eyeliner, the sequins and the platform boots, the whole night is a love letter to the sound of a generation raised on the 1970s: T-Rex, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Slade, Sweet, Mud, ABBA, Mott the Hoople, AC/DC, the one where Video Killed The Radio Star, and that unmistakable Spirit in the Sky. It's good to be back, indeed.
On drums, Rickey "Slick" Slaughter has the crowd stomping before the first chorus even lands. Gary Slitter's bassline does the rest of the convincing, coaxing even the most reluctant dad-dancer onto the floor, while Ronnie Hendrix supplies the kind of noize that has the whole warehouse screaming and shouting along. Expect some surprise guest appearances and a whole lot more.
And front and centre, naturally, is the man himself — rabble rouser, craic dealer, scene stealer, and self-appointed Purple Pied Piper, Alvin "LoveGod" Purple — arriving with two giant snowballz and a whole lotta love in tow. Squeezed into a jumpsuit tight enough to raise eyebrows and sequinned enough to blind the front three rows, he is, by his own admirers' account, something close to a human disco ball: equal parts Bowie, Holder and Mercury, wrapped up in one glittering package.
Mr. Alvin Purple reminisced on last years Glamaganza - “The foreplay of Ricky Slick, Ronnie Hendrix and Gary Sloitor intimately worked a familiar venture towards the posse g spot, leading to an unforgettable orgasmic rock and roll climax with the introduction of the legendary Dr Zoot on sax.”
The accolades are, allegedly, considerable — Grammy nominations, Rolling Stone cover shoots, whispers of a Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction — all of which Alvin has cheerfully traded in for a life spent glam-rocking with his beloved Purple Posse instead. "Excess all areas" remains the order of the night, so punters are advised to glam up, plug in the air guitar, and turn it all the way up to eleven for the closing sing-along: "We've Got the Biggest Ballz of Them All."
