ASH: 1977 Tour

  • Live at the Spiegeltent pavilion 2 N Circular Rd Limerick, LK, V94 A2TY Ireland (map)

From Northern Irish schoolboy upstarts to global Britpop icons

Downpatrick's finest, Ash, celebrate the 30th anniversary of their legendary, chart-topping debut album, 1977 . Originally released in 1996, 1977 was the #1 platinum-selling record that catapulted Ash from Northern Irish schoolboy upstarts to global Britpop icons. Three decades on, this 30th Anniversary Edition celebrates the album that defined a generation with its breakneck energy, razor-sharp hooks, and unforgettable anthems including ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Kung Fu’, and ‘Oh Yeah’.

Ash were originally formed (under the name Vietnam) in the late 80s by childhood friends Tim Wheeler and Mark Hamilton. By 1992, the Downpatrick duo had added Rick Murray on drums and changed their name to Ash, landing their first UK hits before they’d even left secondary school.

The trio hit on a magic formula of geeky charm, youthful pop exuberance and scruffy punk attitude to create a steady stream of earworms that began with their 1994 EP Trailer and the single ‘Jack Names The Planets’. That early promise came back with interest on the band’s debut album 1977.
