Laura Duff - Sea Legs

After a decade being immersed in Limerick’s vibrant music scene, Laura Duff has steadily honed her affecting songwriting with the release of her intimate and introspective debut album, Sea Legs. Navigating grief and celebrating the people and places that have shaped her to this point, Duff’s astute lyrics are immensely impactful in how she deftly distills her experiences into songs. Collaborating extensively with her esteemed band featuring JJ Lee (bass), Christopher O’Sullivan (drums and percussion) and Mícheál Keating (guitar, piano, violin), they have truly found their sound on Sea Legs, drawing from influences such as Big Thief, Ben Howard and Daughter, to create their own enveloping strand of folk inflected rock arrangements.

Taking her time to write and record her debut, Duff and her band spent twelve months, between 2022 and 2023, in bandmate Mícheál Keating’s Knockderry-based home studio situated in rural West Limerick developing Sea Legs’ beautifully crafted world. Keating, celebrated for his work with Bleeding Heart Pigeons, co-produced and engineered the album with Duff. Over a gradual recording process, Keating helped shape the sound of the record and ultimately created softly lit spacious arrangements that complement Duff’s thoughtful lyrics that are delivered with an immediately endearing earnestness.

Duff has shared three singles from the album, offering a brooding introduction to an LP that explores a myriad of dark, introspective topics - available now on all streaming platforms.
