Following shows across Europe supporting the likes of Villagers, Paul Noonan (Bell X1) and All The Luck In The World, Maria Kelly announces her debut headline tour of Ireland in support of her new EP, ‘notes to self’.
After laying a foundation in the Irish music scene, Maria relocated to Berlin in June of this year, inspiring the four-track EP ‘notes to self’. It is a heartbreakingly unassuming collection of songs exploring themes of leaving home and finding familiarity from within, even if that can sometimes be an uncomfortable thing to do. Maria elaborates,
“…the idea stemmed from the fact that I began keeping a diary when I moved away from home. I wanted to document how the change affected me - keeping notes of thoughts, feelings, advise that I heard along the way. It allowed me to be very honest with myself. The diary then inspired four songs that thematically dealt with how we often move through stages of holding on, hiding behind and letting go, and how we must do all three in order to move on. It became a very cathartic piece of work for me, and I hope that anyone who listens finds some comfort in it too.”
The EP premiered on Nialler9, described as ‘poignant folk music at its very best’, while the 405 referred to it as ‘a thing of genuine beauty.’ The debut ‘june’ continues to maintain a spot on the Spotify playlists, ‘Fresh Folk’ and ‘Your Coffee Break’, with ‘august’ entering ‘New Music Friday’ soon after.
The EP was released on December 7th on Veta Records.
This March, Maria embarks on her first ever headline tour in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick.
Tickets on sale Friday December 21st at 9am GMT.
