Singer Shobsy, guitarist Joe Regan, drummer Paul Ridgeway and bassist Noel Perry all
met at BIMM Music College in Dublin. Bonding over a shared interest in classic 80’s music
and a common desire to write big stadium sized songs the guys decided to work on a
music project. This early incarnation lead to the formation of State Lights in 2015.
Considered Rising Stars for 2018, State Lights new single, “Peace Will Come” which was
mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons) is accompanied by an incredibly
powerful video, it features images of the current political discourse in the world. Famous
faces such as Martin Luther King, David Bowie and Bono feature as examples of figures
who have paved the way for peace and understanding in a world that is constantly
overcoming prejudices and challenges, both socially and politically. The video concludes
with images of people holding their own banner saying, “PEACE WILL COME” with their
name signed, creating a message of unity, hope and faith that we will see peace. Some of
the featured faces include Liam Cunningham (actor) Patrick Bergin (actor), Gary Ringrose
(rugby player), Guggi (Artist), Kevin Thornton (Celebrity Chef), Craig Fitzgerald (The

Shobsy: Lead singer
Shobsy volunteers every September to help the sick pilgrims on the Dublin Diocesan
Pilgrimage to Lourdes. (Truth, no fake news!) He always has been interested in
frontmanship ever since he was tiny. One Christmas when he was three, Shobsy asked
for a microphone and a stander& in his letter to Santa!
Paul originally wanted to be a vocalist but got bored with the singing lessons! As a kid he
was more interested in BMX than the drums until Paul had a bad crash and the handle
bar went through his neck, ouch!
Before deciding that he wanted to go to BIMM and study music, Joe was very interested
in journalism, specifically music and film journalism. He used to write reviews of albums
that he loved, now the tables are turned. He also has a love the production side of music
and would like to do as much production work as possible. Joe has his own studio, Studio
CHR, located next to his home in Granard, Co. Longford. All State Lights music is
recorded there by themselves.
If Noel hadn't discovered the degree course in commercial modern music at BIMM
Dublin he would have gone to college to study architecture. He also has a couple of FAI
coaching badges and managed a local kids football team for three seasons before
moving to Dublin for college.
