The hottest band on the Irish folk scene right now, We Banjo 3, are set to release their first single “The Fox” featuring Sharon Shannon on Accordion. Sharon, a fellow Galway musician has brought Irish accordion to a worldwide audience much like the lads have done for their own banjo!
We Banjo 3 comprise 2 sets of brothers, Enda and Fergal Scahill, and Martin and David Howley. Yes, there are 4 people in We Banjo 3. But don’t worry, they don’t all play the banjo. They just like to be mysterious. Fiddle, guitar, vocals, mandolin, banjo and percussion make up the band and when they release their joie-de-vivre, feet tap and pulses race.
Seamlessly blending Americana and Irish music, this Galway band of brothers have been racking up awards recently. Their debut album ‘Roots of the Banjo Tree’ won Irish Times Trad Album of the Year and their 2014 offering ‘Gather The Good’ has won no less than 4 Album of the Year titles.
WeBanjo3 are releasing their live album in June, hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed 2 studio albums.
2014 saw the band play in 14 different countries including headlining festivals in the US, Denmark, the UK and Germany.
Siobhan Long of the Irish Times said “We Banjo 3 are a musical Betty Ford Clinic, almost single handedly rehabilitating the much maligned banjo in 4 short years”
The Irish Echo said their music is “Fabulously executed, brilliantly arranged, jaw-dropping”
We Banjo 3 have released a new single “The Fox” Feat Sharon Shannon. The video directed by Mia Mullarkey of Iska Films, was shot in south Galway and features amazing woodland and castle scenery, encapsulating the rugged ancient beauty ofthe West of Ireland, and the wildness that is present in both the nature and the music of that land.
